Recycled Messmate Timber Furniture
Origin of Recycled Messmate Timber
Messmate, otherwise known as Eucalyptus Obliqua, is widespread in the southeastern regions of Australia. The Eucalyptus Obliqua species can grow up to 90m tall and grows in a wide range of soils.
Recycled Messmate timber is reclaimed when buildings are being demolished.
Appearance of recycled Messmate timber furniture
The colour of the Messmate timber ranges from a mid-tone brown to light yellow with a hint of peach. A quintessential piece of recycled Messmate timber furniture is heavily featured with gum veins, well-defined rings and a coarse grain.
The recycled features of the timber tell the tale of the previous life of the wood. This can be nail or bolt holes, processing marks and water patterning.
In comparison to newly harvested timber, recycled Messmate wood furniture has a higher variation in tone.
