Our door wood options
Our three timber door options of Blackbutt, Messmate and recycled Messmate are all either sustainably sourced or reclaimed.
A solid timber door brings warmth and texture to the frontage of your home, making a lasting first impression. In contrast to a hollow alternative, a solid timber front door is sturdy, secure and a delight to swing open and closed.
Each of our pieces is made to your dimensions to ensure that it will fit snugly into your space. We also create frames from matching Australian hardwood with elements such as sidelights and stunning chunky sills.
As well as wooden front doors, we also create beautiful internal timber doors. Other than the beauty of real wood, compared to their hollow counterparts, these pieces are great at dampening sound and temperature control.
A solid door requires a horizontal breadboard at the top and base to counteract any movement of the wood.
The wood you choose for your timber front door greatly impacts the aesthetic of your frontage.
Select grade Blackbutt timber is a beautiful pale brown tone with minimal markings. This is a great option for Scandinavian, modern and Hamptons style homes.
Messmate timber is a warm brown tone with quintessential black sap line features.
Recycled Messmate is similar to Messmate; however, its tone is more varied and there will be signs of its previous life, such as nail holes.

Deciding on the right entrance for your home is about balancing aesthetic appeal with long-term performance. When you invest in custom solid timber doors, you’re choosing a material that naturally outperforms synthetic alternatives across every practical metric, from thermal regulation to home security.
Solid timber is a fantastic thermal insulator, helping regulate your home's internal temperature year-round. By reducing heat transfer, these doors keep your living spaces cooler during a Melbourne summer and retain warmth throughout the winter months.
The mass of a solid wood door acts as a natural sound barrier, significantly dampening external noise from traffic or neighbours. This makes them an ideal choice for solid timber doors for sale, intended for both front entrances and quiet internal study areas.
Unlike cheaper alternatives that may need replacing after a decade of wear and tear, a solid timber door can be sanded and refinished many times over. This longevity, combined with the timeless appeal of Australian hardwoods, adds genuine character and market value to your property.
Our custom solid timber doors are designed to meet the unique architectural demands of Melbourne living. From heritage-listed cottages with non-standard frames to minimalist, modern entryways, we provide a made-to-measure service that ensures a seamless fit. Whether you prefer the pale tones of Blackbutt or the character of recycled Messmate, our locally crafted solid timber doors are tailored to suit your specific interior and exterior styling.
The finish you choose shapes your door's overall look and affects how it ages over time. For custom solid timber doors, the right finish can protect the timber from environmental factors such as UV exposure and moisture, both of which can affect the door’s appearance and longevity.
At Bombora Custom Furniture, our doors are supplied unfinished. This allows the finish to be applied after installation, ensuring proper coverage and long-term performance. Applying the finish once the door is hung helps protect all exposed surfaces and reduces the risk of movement or exposure-related damage.
You can choose between a clear or stained finish, depending on the desired look. A clear finish highlights the timber’s natural grain and tone, while a stain can introduce depth, contrast or a more tailored colour outcome.
We recommend using a high-quality finish such as Osmo UV Protection Oil, which is designed to protect against sun damage while maintaining the natural look and feel of the timber.
Looking after solid timber doors is fairly simple, but regular care will help preserve their appearance and performance over time. A well-maintained timber door will continue to look beautiful while standing up to daily use.
Maintenance requirements will depend on the type of finish applied to your door. Each finish has its own care guidelines, so it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the best long-term result.
In general, to help keep the surface in good condition:
Keeping up with this basic maintenance will help your door retain its colour, grain definition and durability. For homeowners investing in custom solid timber doors, proper aftercare is an important part of getting long-term value from the timber.

We supply our outdoor timber doors raw as the process of hanging the door damages the applied finish. Once the door is hung, a UV protection product will need to be applied. The finish that we recommend for the doors is the Osmo UV protection oil.
Depending on your location, we can apply the Osmo finish to your door for an additional fee.
No, the door is supplied without the hardware, locks or handles.
The finish you have applied to the door will need to be maintained as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
